This variation of the Tetra Fish is very beautiful due to the splash of red across their face, the silver body, and the black and white striped tail. This is an non-aggressive fish that needs to be put in a community tank with other peaceful fish.A true omnivore, the Buenos Aires will accept a wide variety of foods ranging from your standard flake to blood worms and live cultured daphnia. As a natural shoaling fish, this tetra again like most all, will appreciate and behave best if part of a medium to large size school, any number above 5 or 6 of them. This is a very beautiful type of Tetra fish that usually grows to a maximum length of 1.5 inches. Pristella Tetra have a variety of colors present including blue, green, yellow, and red, and they are referred to as “X-Ray” because they are seemingly transparent. The rummy-nose tetra is a torpedo-shaped fish, whose basal body colour is a translucent silvery colour suffused in some specimens with a greenish tint: iridescent green scales are frequently seen adorning the fish at the point where the fontanel (a part of the head roughly corresponding to the forehead in humans) meets the body. The fins are hyaline, with the exception of the tail fin, this fin being adorned with black and white horizontal stripes, variable in number, but usually comprising one central black stripe in the central portion of the tail fin, with two horizontal black stripes upon each caudal fin lobe, the spaces between the stripes being white, the total count of black stripes being five. The head is a deep red colour, iridescent in lustre, with the red continuing into the iris of the eye, and some red colouration extends beyond the operculum or gill plate into the anteriormost section of the body proper. Some specimens classified as possess three black tail stripes instead of five, and some specimens classified as have a black stripe in the caudal peduncle extending forwards into the body, surmounted above by a thin iridescent gold line: however, whether these features are reliable determinants of species identity has yet to be fully ascertained.Unlike other tetra fish that don’t have substantial dorsal fins, this species has anal and dorsal fins that feature a variety of colors and are quite large. The Pristella Tetra is actually very resistant to many water types as it is found in coastal rivers in South America, meaning that they can survive in slightly salty water.Tetras make up the most popular groups of fish for small freshwater home aquariums. They are the most requested fish because you can get a large variety of colorful active and hardy Tetra fish types, and have them all in a freshwater aquarium full of other tank mates.
