Those bacterial colonies are necessary to eliminate waste produced by the fish, leftover food, and plant debris in the aquarium. If the bacteria don't have a comfy gravel bed to live in they will find other places, but may not grow in sufficient quantities to keep the aquarium safe for your fish.

It was brought to my attention some time ago that one of the easiest to cultivate live foods, Daphnia, is rarely offered in tropical fish shops. This seems odd, because I’ve had a surplus of this invaluable for many years, which I have sold to customers in my aquarium store. In fact, hundreds of customers have confirmed what I have found myself: feeding live Daphnia results in a remarkable improvement in the appearance, health and longevity of fish. I’d like to share with you how easy it is to create a perpetual live food reservoir that requires little effort, knowledge or cost. enough space for pet supplies, aquariums, live fish, and live animals.

saltwater aquarium fishNow that you understand the value of Daphnia as a live food source for your fish, let’s examine how to successfully establish a thriving culture. To begin with, it is essential to have a food supply for feeding the Daphnia well in advance. What is needed is a container to hold four times the volume of water of the container that will house the Daphnia. Ideally, a 10-gallon aquarium can be used for this purpose. Those bacterial colonies are necessary to eliminate waste produced by the fish, leftover food, and plant debris in the aquarium. If the bacteria don't have a comfy gravel bed to live in they will find other places, but may not grow in sufficient quantities to keep the aquarium safe for your fish.Freshwater aquariums usually include plants. Most tropical fish come from river and lake environments where plants are plentiful, so it only makes sense. Whether live or artificial, plants offer a place for fish to hide and feel secure. They’ll also make your fish tank look much nicer, and can create a realistic natural habitat for the inhabitants of your aquarium.
