Custom aquariums are popular for two reasons, interior designers say. One is that upscale nightclubs, restaurants and boutique hotels have been installing them, which gives homeowners the me-too idea. Another is that, among people of means, a dazzling aquarium is one of the last surefire ways to impress their peers.

It was a picture in The Robb Report, a luxury goods magazine, that prompted Tom Gosling to buy the Spacearium and modify his building plans. He was building his 3,500-square-foot home in Kitchener, Ontario, and opted to scrap some cabinets between the kitchen and the living room in favor of the hanging aquarium. Before you head to the pet store, then, do some homework to find out where your fish came from. If you're lucky enough to live near one of the four Marine Aquarium Council-certified retailers in the United States (in Florida, Illinois, Michigan and New Jersey), you can buy saltwater fish that are verified to have been sustainably collected or cultured and then properly handled throughout the supply chain. (In the coming months, a new licensing program should increase the number of stores where you can buy MAC-approved fish.) You should also check out Reef Protection International's Reef Fish Guide, which assesses popular marine species based on four criteria: survivability in home aquariums, abundance in the wild, availability and potential for captive breeding, and collection methods used. Local hobbyist groups can also be great sources of information and, occasionally, homebred pets.Just wanted to write you a quick note to let you know how very pleased we are with the aviary and aquarium. They turned out spectacular - a perfect finish for the building. I know this took extra effort and time from your team. The residents in Waterford are very fortunate to have these two pieces in their new home.

A custom made fish tank can breathe life into an office, home or any large business. When dramatic is the only way to go, a custom made aquarium is ready to fit the bill. When choosing a company to create your custom built aquarium, you want to find a trusted company that has a perfect understanding of the intricate designs, stability issues and materials needed for high volume aquariums. Most people keep a home nano aquarium as a hobby, to stay entertained and to make their house look lively and colorful. However, they are unknown to the fact that having a home aquarium also offers some hidden health benefits of a home aquarium! It is used as an amazing therapeutic tool which solves several problems with ease.As the title of this article indicates, by home aquarium standards these are large fish. This is a subjective term of course, and adult size varies from 6" to 20" or so in the wild depending on species. While adult size in the wild doesn't necessarily translate into size attained in the home aquarium under average conditions (more on this below) you can easily choose a species that will be very at home in your 80 gallon, or very, VERY cramped in a 200 gallon tank if you're not careful. So the first thing you need to determine is what species your tank will accommodate in the real estate department. Given the diversity of the family, and the varying growth rates and sizes of various species, coupled with conditions that vary greatly from one living room to the next, generalizations are difficult at best here. To further complicate this matter, some angels will attain a size close to their wild adult maximum under the right conditions, while others almost never reach full size in most living room tanks, even relatively large ones. As a general rule, and I stress that this is a generalization, most larger species can be expected to eventually attain half to three quarters of their maximum wild adult size under very favorable conditions. Most of the time, growth also slows as size increases, and appears to all but stop at various sizes depending on species and conditions at hand. This is due to stunting, and is a problem not dealt with in most publications with regards to this family.Studies reveal that the presence of an aquarium in the house can help reduce the blood pressure of the individuals staying in it. Though some people place an empty but well-decorated aquarium in their homes to reap the benefits, the ones which have beautiful aquarium fish in them yield better results. Alternately, playing video tapes of fishes swimming in water also offer the same therapeutic benefits to the members of the family. This is one of the top notch health benefits of a home aquarium.
