I have to admit that the first time I ever saw a bumblebee pim, I had to ask if the fish was alive or dead! One day while in my neighborhood wall to wall discount mart, I happened to pass by the fish tanks. In a tank filled with red tailed and rainbow sharks I noticed some tiny yellow and black catfish-like fish "stuck" between a filter and the aquarium's glass. A small school of four of these aqua-critters were wedged unmoving between the filter and the glass. The part-time pet department employee assured me that the fish were indeed alive, but he wasn't exactly sure what they were doing or what they were. Well, that piqued my curiosity, and before I knew it I had purchased two of these mysterious catfish and brought them home!

Upside down catfish are members of the Synodontis family of catfish. These freshwater aquarium catfish are mostly known for their habit of squeaking at each other as a form of communication. Most varieties are black with white or tan spots while there are some with the exact opposite colorings. Many of the Synodontis catfish come from the same lakes as African cichlids and are the preferred tank cleaners for these specialty tanks (Cuckoo and Even Spotted Squeakers to name two). Bullheads are typically fairly long in maximum size, by aquarium fish standards. The Yellow and Brown Bullheads grows up to around 1.5 feet, the Black Bullhead to 2 feet, and the White Catfish can reach about 3 feet in length (though roughly 1 foot is the average size). The remaining species have a maximum length of about 1 foot, though 8 inches is a more likely adult size.
Otocinclus catfish are far smaller than Plecostomus, ranging from 2 to 5 inches with most staying around the 3 inch mark, and are a social fish. Unlike most other freshwater aquarium catfish Otos will get lonely if they are not kept in schools of at least three (preferably 6 or more). There are two types of Oto, the Golden Oto which is predominantly gold with a large horizontal black stripe running from the tip of its nose to the base of its tail, the Zebra Oto is black with several vertical white bands encircling the body. Otos are voracious eaters and a team of three can keep a 29 gallon tank spotless, in fact they may need additional algae wafers to supplement their diet after cleaning a dirty tank. The Pictus Cat or “Pim” is a striking silver and black catfish with a wide mouth and long, flowing barbels. It is an active schooling catfish and reportedly pines away if not kept in groups in the aquarium. hey guys this is my Black Bullhead catfish aquarium i have had these catfish since they were baby's and the just don't stop growing!
