Fluval Spec V Aquarium 5 gallon, Black

I often see requests for information on starting a very small 3 to 5 gallon aquarium.

Next to 2.5 gallon (18.9 L) aquariums, 5 gallon aquariums are the second smallest in the fish keeping world. They do not have much space for a lot of decorations and fish, but this does not mean that they have to look boring and empty. With the right decorations, fish, and placement, it is possible to make even the smallest aquarium look interesting.

Hi. Great article. I am in the process of setting up a 5 gallon tank. I have a back moss wall started, a few tiny Marimo moss balls and 2 other small plants. I am in the process of cycling it and doing fish research. I think I am going to go with 5 of the green neon tetras you suggested. I would love to add shrimp, but how many. My aquarium is short and wide. Can I add a snail and shrimp? Thank you for your suggestions. Those who have a limited space, yet want to have an aquarium, 5 gal tank is definitely the best choice for them.

In the world of 5 gallon aquariums that you can house betta fish in, you’d have an extremely hard time trying to find a better tank than the Fluval Spec V. Small enough to fit on a desktop or counter, yet spacious enough for your betta to swim freely, the Spec V from Fluval is a great place to start in designing your ideal betta aquarium setup! We recently purchased a 5 gallon aquarium which would become the new home for my daughter's Betta fish. While we wanted to upgrade him from the temporary bowl she was using to a larger home, more importantly we knew that with the fluctuating evening temperatures we needed to get him into an environment that included a heater before the water temperature got too low than the tropical temperatures that we needed to maintain. This aquarium kit is the boss hog of the 5 gallon aquarium gang. Yes, that is written lightheartedly, but in all honesty, you’d really have a hard time trying to one-up the Fluval Spec 5 Gallon Aquarium Kit. I mean that to say, if you were trying to build your own to enter the aquarium market, this 5 gallon tank kit from fluval would be staggeringly difficult to beat. As a consumer though, this is the aquarium I’d finally break open the piggy bank for (and I love my pretty piggy bank). The Spec V Kit is elegant, built with functionality in mind, incredibly durable and filled with not only the right accessories, but incredibly well made accessories to boot. Now this is a great starter tank kit for a betta fish! The large, 5 gallon capacity is leaps and bounds more spacious than those oh-so-popular betta “bubbles” and vases you see everywhere. Your betta needs room to stretch his fins, explore and get exercise. This 5 gallon, rounded aquarium provides that and then some!If you are looking for a ready to go out of the box aquarium for a new betta fish, or one living in cramped quarters, the Aquarius 5 gallon Aquarium Kit is an awesome choice! With it’s shatter-proof acrylic construction, built-in LED lighting and internal power filter, this betta tank kit is a step above the other entry level betta aquarium kits out there! On the market, there are 7.5w, 10w, 15w, 25w aquarium heaters- all indicating that they will work just fine for a tank 5 gallons and under. BEWARE! Not all low wattage heaters are the same!
